Shut down inhumane Northwest Detention Center, protect immigrant rights.
To: Sen. Saldana
From: A constituent in Seattle, WA
September 1
The Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma, Washington, is a privately-run immigration detention facility that has faced numerous allegations of human rights abuses and substandard living conditions. Immigration detention centers like the NWDC separate families and deny due process, perpetuating a cruel and unjust system. We call for the immediate shutdown of the NWDC and an end to the inhumane practice of immigration detention. For over 9 years, La Resistencia has supported hunger strikes and protests organized by detained individuals fighting for their basic rights and human dignity. Immigration is not a crime, and detaining people solely for their immigration status is a violation of human rights. We must dismantle this unjust system and provide immigrants with the opportunity to remain with their families and communities without threat of detention or deportation. The presence of the NWDC in our state is unacceptable, and we urge you to take action to shut it down and enact policies that protect immigrant rights.
