Continuing to provide arms to Israel while they carry out indiscriminate attacks killing civilians and aid workers constitutes a violation of international law and risks complicity in war crimes. The United Nations has accused Israel of failing to distinguish fighters from civilians, resulting in over 37,400 Palestinian deaths from their offensive in Gaza. This unlawful military campaign has taken an appalling toll, including the killing of workers from the humanitarian group World Central Kitchen providing food aid. Such wanton disregard for civilian lives meets the criteria for genocide under international conventions. Enabling these atrocities by sending additional weapons and munitions enables further loss of innocent life. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a leader on the world stage, the United States has a legal and moral responsibility to halt arms transfers enabling these gross human rights violations against a trapped civilian population.
