An Open Letter

To: Sen. Cassidy, Rep. Letlow, Sen. Kennedy

From: A constituent in Denham Springs, LA

April 29

I am writing as your constituent to demand immediate action to recognize the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution. The Equal Rights Amendment has met the constitutional requirement of ratification by three-fourths of the states. Thirty-eight states have ratified it. The will of the people has already been expressed. The only barrier remaining is an arbitrary and outdated deadline that was placed in the preamble—not in the text of the amendment itself. Congress has the authority to remove or disregard that deadline. I am calling on you to: - Publicly support removal of the ERA ratification deadline - Vote in favor of any resolution that affirms the ERA as valid - Push for immediate certification by the Archivist of the United States Equality should not expire. Constitutional rights should not be subject to procedural loopholes. The deadline is not a reflection of the Constitution—it is a political obstacle that can and must be corrected. At a time when rights are increasingly uncertain following decisions like Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, it is more urgent than ever that sex equality be explicitly and permanently protected under the Constitution. This is not a partisan issue. This is a constitutional obligation. Do your job. Remove the deadline. Recognize the ERA. Uphold equal rights under the law. I will be watching your vote.
