An Open Letter

February 21

I am writing to express my strong opposition to House Bill 2650, currently under consideration in the West Virginia House of Delegates. As a concerned citizen of this state, I believe that this legislation will have detrimental effects on our children and schools and will negatively impact our community and state in numerous ways. This bill would cause great harm in our communities due to possible violence. With the drug epidemic on our hands, allowing to have open carry in schools is completely irresponsible. In addition to its negative consequences, House Bill 2650 fails to address key concerns that would mitigate its adverse effects. The discussion of corporal punishment in schools and now this? It truly shows the safety of our states children is low on the priority list. I urge you to reconsider the passage of this bill and to work toward a solution that truly benefits all West Virginians, rather than one that may disproportionately harm certain groups or undermine vital protections. Please consider my opposition and the broader consequences that this legislation could have on our state’s well-being. Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope you will take into account the concerns raised by myself and others as you deliberate on this bill.
