Restore LGBTQ+ crisis lifeline option to save lives

The Trump administration's decision to dismantle the specialized LGBTQ+ option on the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is misguided and dangerous. LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly youth, face heightened risks of mental health challenges and suicidal ideation. This dedicated resource has proven vital, providing over 1.3 million LGBTQ+ young people with culturally competent support during their darkest moments. Removing this evidence-based service eliminates a critical lifeline for a vulnerable population at disproportionate risk of suicide. I urge you to immediately take action to restore funding and staffing for the LGBTQ+ option on the 988 lifeline. Suicide prevention should never be politicized - it is a matter of protecting lives. Young LGBTQ+ Americans deserve access to the specialized care and understanding this service provides. The administration's choice to erase this resource is unconscionable, especially during Pride Month meant to celebrate this community. We have both a moral and practical imperative to maintain resources proven to save LGBTQ+ lives. I implore you to swiftly remedy this misguided decision by securing the future of the 988 option 3 LGBTQ+ support line. Our nation's most vulnerable youth are counting on your leadership.
