Secret Service Director Should Be Fired
To: Rep. Himes
From: A constituent in Fairfield, CT
July 23
The recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has raised serious concerns about the Secret Service's ability to effectively protect high-level officials. During the congressional hearing, Director Kimberly Cheatle's inability to provide basic details, such as the number of agents assigned to Trump's security detail or the decision-making process behind the security perimeter, was deeply troubling. Her lack of transparency and accountability has eroded congressional confidence in her leadership. Given the gravity of this security breach and Cheatle's unsatisfactory responses, I urge her to tender her resignation immediately. The Secret Service is tasked with safeguarding our nation's leaders, and its failure to prevent this attack on a former president is unacceptable. New leadership is crucial to restore public trust and ensure such lapses never occur again. The American people deserve full transparency and a thorough overhaul of the agency's protocols to prevent future threats. Cheatle's resignation is a necessary first step in that process.
