Oppose bill favoring wealthy, harming Utah families and environment
To: Gov. Cox
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
July 1
Honorable Governor, I write on behalf of Utah citizens to respectfully urge you to voice firm opposition to the proposed "big, beautiful bill" under consideration in Congress. This deeply flawed legislation poses grave risks of economic upheaval that would unduly burden millions of vulnerable Americans, while lavishing benefits upon wealthy individuals and corporations. Key provisions call for permanently extending corporate tax cuts and repealing critical environmental safeguards, measures that threaten to exacerbate the climate crisis and eliminate nearly 500,000 healthcare jobs. Perhaps most alarmingly, over $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid could strip health coverage from 12 million low-income people, with rural communities facing particularly devastating impacts. The projected $3 trillion increase to federal deficits will also saddle future generations with immense debt. As a steward of Utah's interests, I implore you to condemn this inequitable legislation that so heavily favors the privileged few at the expense of marginalized communities and environmental protection itself. Utah's citizens deserve policies that prioritize their well-being over obscene corporate profits and hold firms accountable for ecological harm. I urge you to reach out directly to the legislature to voice forceful opposition to this misguided bill that poses an unacceptable threat to Utah families.
