Urgent: Negative Impact of Copper Legislation on Our Business and Environment
To: Sen. Lieske
From: A constituent in Rosemount, MN
January 8
I am writing to express my concern about the recent legislation that prohibits the sale of specific
copper items unless sellers are registered with the Department of Commerce. As a small business
and community partner in recycling, this legislation poses significant challenges to our
operations and undermines our efforts to promote sustainable practices.
The restrictions will:
1. Increase operational costs for both businesses and individuals.
2. Discourage recycling, potentially leading to more valuable materials ending up in landfills.
3. Create unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles for responsible sellers and buyers.
Our facility plays a critical role in ensuring that recyclable materials are properly processed and
reused. Without a timely revision to this law, we risk seeing a decline in recycling participation
and an increase in environmental waste. I respectfully request your support in revisiting this legislation to find a more balanced solution
that protects both our environment and local businesses.
Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.
