I see you are one of 8 Democratic Senators considering capitulating to the Republicans to end this shutdown. PLEASE do not vote to reopen without the ACA subsidies. A promise to vote in December from lying fascists is not sufficient; they will have no reason to keep their word once you give them what they want. I know you represent a lot of federal workers, and I know they are shouldering a lot of the pain currently, but they do not want you to cave! Giving in to the Republicans without getting ACA subsidies is a slap in the face to everyone going without paychecks right now. You will have put your constituency through enormous financial stress and pain for nothing. Caving will erase any hope the left clawed back in last week’s elections. Just hearing the news that you and a handful of other senators were going to give in eroded so much goodwill the Democratic Party had built lately. It feels like a massive betrayal, one that I will find hard to forgive when you are up for reelection. In the past, I have been proud to call you my Senator - like when you voted for halting sending more arms to Israel. It was the right thing to do, and it was not popular. Once again you are part of a small coalition on an issue, but this is not the same. The majority of Americans WANT you to keep fighting. If you vote to reopen the government without securing ACA subsidies (not just a loose promise from liars), history will not look kindly on you.
