Vote against the veto override - NC382

To: Rep. Budd, Sen. Hunt, Gov. Cooper

From: A verified voter in Charlotte, NC

December 3

The North Carolina Senate's vote to override Governor Cooper's veto of Senate Bill 382 is deeply concerning. While the bill allocates additional funds for Hurricane Helene relief efforts, it also contains provisions that strip powers away from the offices of the governor, attorney general, and other positions won by Democrats in the 2024 election. This is an unacceptable partisan power grab that undermines the will of the voters. The hurricane relief funds are sorely needed to aid communities impacted by Helene's devastation. However, tying this vital assistance to partisan machinations that consolidate power for the Republican majority is an egregious abuse of the legislative process. It is a disservice to the people of North Carolina who are still recovering from the storm's effects. I urge you to vote against overriding Governor Cooper's veto when this bill comes before the House. North Carolinians deserve hurricane relief free from political games and power grabs. The democratic process and the authority vested in elected officials by the people must be respected. Reject this brazen attempt to undermine the balance of power and stand up for the principles of good governance.
