Demand Investigation Into Termination of Trump Special Counsel Probes
To: Rep. Maloy, Sen. Lee, Sen. Curtis

The recent release of former special counsel Jack Smith's 255-page deposition transcript by the House Judiciary Committee raises urgent questions that demand immediate congressional investigation. Smith's investigations into President Trump resulted in federal indictments, yet these prosecutions were halted. The circumstances surrounding the termination of these investigations require thorough examination to protect the integrity of our justice system.
Smith demonstrated such confidence in his team's work and conclusions that he specifically requested the full transcript be released, even in the face of threats from Trump to prosecute him. This level of transparency from a prosecutor suggests the investigations were conducted properly and yielded substantial findings. When legitimate federal investigations producing indictments are stopped, Congress has a constitutional duty to understand what intervened and why.
The American people deserve answers about what forces or decisions prevented these investigations from reaching their natural conclusion. Was it political pressure? Executive interference? Procedural manipulation? Without a comprehensive investigation, we cannot know whether our justice system operated independently or whether it was compromised by external influence.
I urge you to call for immediate hearings to examine the timeline and decision-making process that led to the termination of Smith's investigations. Subpoena relevant documents and testimony from Department of Justice officials, White House staff, and anyone involved in the decision to end these prosecutions. The investigation should determine whether any improper pressure was applied and whether any laws or regulations were violated in the process.
Our democracy depends on equal application of the law and the independence of federal investigations from political interference. When investigations producing federal indictments are stopped without full public explanation, it erodes public trust in our institutions. Congress must act now to restore that trust by uncovering the truth about what happened and implementing safeguards to prevent future interference with legitimate prosecutions.
