I am writing as a concerned constituent to express my strong opposition to the proposed autism registry initiative being promoted by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Creating a national registry of individuals with autism raises serious ethical, privacy, and civil rights concerns. It risks stigmatizing autistic individuals and treating them as subjects of surveillance rather than as citizens with full rights to privacy and dignity. This proposal could set a dangerous precedent for tracking individuals based on medical or neurological diagnoses.
Such a registry does not align with best practices in public health or disability rights. Instead of compiling lists, we should focus on expanding access to services, support systems, and inclusive policies that help individuals with autism lead fulfilling lives. The proposal smacks more of fear-based policymaking than of a compassionate or scientifically sound approach.
I urge you to speak out against this initiative and take any legislative steps necessary to ensure that no such registry is created. We must stand against any attempt to reduce people with disabilities to data points in a government database, especially under the guise of "public health."
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I trust you will protect the rights and dignity of all Americans.
