Stop subsidizing oil, it is an outdated and dirty fuel.

To: Sen. Klobuchar, Rep. McCollum, Sen. Smith

From: A verified voter in Saint Paul, MN

July 2

We must end the billions in subsidies that prop up the fossil fuel industry. These archaic energy sources have been heavily subsidized for over a century, distorting the free market and deterring a rapid transition to clean energy. The oil and gas sector reaped $4 trillion in profits in 2022 alone, demonstrating they no longer require public assistance. Renewables like wind and solar are already the cheapest sources for new electricity generation. Continuing to subsidize polluting fossil fuels obstructs technological progress and exacerbates the climate crisis threatening our planet. It is fiscally irresponsible and environmentally reckless to funnel our tax dollars into an industry jeopardizing our future. We cannot afford to delay decisive action any longer - the health of our economy and our very survival depend on rapidly phasing out fossil fuel subsidies and accelerating the shift to renewable energy now.
