Neutered War Powers Act?
To: Rep. Ciscomani
From: A constituent in Marana, AZ
May 4
Juan:
The War Powers Act specifically requires Presidential action now. And once again, this Congress, including you, are looking the other way. President Trump claims the war is “over” because of a cease-fire. That is absurd on its face, on top of the fact that this provision contains no such permission to disregard this important check on executive power.
This insanity has to stop. You are my representative - I am telling you that I am opposed to this war, and I demand that you do everything in your power to compel this President to comply with the War Powers Act. This country is still a democracy - a country bound by 250 years of rule of law. Turning the other cheek and hoping that this will go away is not a strategy. It is weakness.
I’m waiting for your next newsletter that should contain less platitudes and more about what your are doing to ensure the safety and welfare of our troops in the middle of a conflict that Trump is prosecuting absent your specific requirement to approve it.
