Reverse Course on Fidelity Month — You've Betrayed LGBTQ+ Utahns

To: Rep. Dailey-Provost, Gov. Cox, Sen. Plumb

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

June 4

Rescind the Fidelity Month declaration and recommit to the inclusive leadership you once modeled for this state. What you signed is not bridge-building — it's a signal to LGBTQ+ Utahns that they don't belong here. I remember your 2016 speech after the Pulse shooting. You stood up and apologized for your past attitudes toward gay people. That took courage, and it mattered. For years after, you signed Pride Month declarations asking Utahns to support their LGBTQ+ friends and family. That was the governor I could respect. Now you've replaced that with a declaration lifted from a conservative activist's playbook, framing "fidelity to faith, family, and country" as the antidote to division — while the people most targeted by that framing are left out entirely. Sen. Jen Plumb called it a betrayal of trust. She's right. You don't get to spend years building credibility with LGBTQ+ Utahns and then quietly erase them from June. Shame on you for this reversal.
