I am deeply concerned about the recent changes to the CDC's vaccine safety page that appear to promote dangerous vaccine misinformation. As a constituent who values public health and scientific integrity, I urge you to take immediate action to address this critical issue.
The CDC's updated vaccine safety page now includes discredited claims linking immunizations to autism, with links directing to papers by known anti-vaccine activists. This change, attributed to the influence of newly appointed HHS Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr., directly contradicts his promises during confirmation hearings to work within existing vaccine approval and safety monitoring systems.
Since taking over HHS, Kennedy has made several alarming moves that threaten public health. These include terminating over $1 billion in crucial research, making COVID vaccines harder to obtain, and replacing key personnel with his allies. Most concerning is the replacement of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices with individuals who share Kennedy's anti-vaccine stance.
The timing of these changes is particularly troubling as the ACIP prepares to discuss the childhood/adolescent immunization schedule. With public faith in vaccines already declining and a resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases like measles, the promotion of misinformation by our nation's leading public health agency could have devastating consequences.
I implore you to take swift action to reverse these dangerous changes to the CDC's vaccine information. Please work with your colleagues to:
1. Restore scientifically accurate information on the CDC's vaccine safety page.
2. Reinstate the original Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
3. Investigate the process that allowed these changes to occur and implement safeguards to prevent future compromises of scientific integrity.
Our nation's health and the trust in our public health institutions are at stake. We cannot afford to let misinformation guide our health policies. Thank you for your immediate attention to this urgent matter.
