Oppose H.J. Res. 140 and Misuse of the Congressional Review Act

To: Rep. Beyer, Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Falls Church, VA

April 28

I'm asking you to oppose H.J. Res. 140 and any similar attempts to abuse the Congressional Review Act to roll back critical safeguards. The Congressional Review Act was designed to give Congress oversight of major new regulations, not to weaponize it against longstanding protections that keep our communities safe. Using the CRA to attack established rules sets a dangerous precedent that undermines decades of bipartisan work to protect public health, worker safety, and environmental standards. More than 30 organizations have come together to oppose this resolution because they recognize what's at stake. When Congress misuses the CRA this way, it doesn't just eliminate one rule. It prevents agencies from ever issuing substantially similar protections in the future, tying the hands of future administrations and leaving gaps in safeguards that can never be filled. These protections exist because they work. They prevent injuries, save lives, and ensure corporations can't cut corners at the expense of ordinary people. Vote no on H.J. Res. 140 and stand with the dozens of groups defending sensible safeguards over special interests.
