What Are You DOING to Keep New Jerseyans Safe?

To: Gov. Murphy

From: A constituent in Jackson, NJ

February 28, 2025

Governor Murphy, I am a born and raised resident of New Jersey. I voted for you twice, yet I have not seen any major POSITIVE improvements and I have not seen you really speaking out against the current Administration and the abomination that is occurring across our country. We are seeing record highs of lay offs and cut backs on programs that already did not help enough people. We are seeing racism run rampant through our country now more than ever. We are seeing transphobia, homophobia, and hate directed specifically at the HISPANIC community with zero consequences for anyone who promotes or encourages these mentalities. Freedom of speech DOES NOT MEAN allowing others to express volatile and extremely dangerous rhetoric to people like myself, my family and many friends and people I love and care about! We also live in a state where the cost of living is becoming unbearable. My husband and I rent a pathetic 1 bedroom apartment in Jackson NJ and we pay $1400 a month. That does not include gas, electric, phone, car insurance, renters insurance, gas, food, or credit card bills (credit cards which have been maxed out because we cannot afford anything). I have been unemployed for roughly 9 months and unemployment was giving me $311 a week. What the hell am I supposed to do with that? Now I'm getting $84 a month and I work ONE SINGLE DAY a week because that's all I can find right now. I've applied to places even outside my career which is in vet med. And vet med as a whole is terribly unsupported and unappreciated in this country as it is. We are grossly underpaid and then forced out of our careers to do things we don't love or enjoy because there's just no support in pushing the importance of Veterinary care. My husband works at a dispensary right now and he is the only one with full time hours in our household. He just recently learned they are going to be making cut backs on hours. So now what? My parents are in their 70s. My mom is disabled, nonverbal due to stroke and has stage 3 brain cancer. My grandmother is 97 and has AlzheimersThey live in a 55+ community in Whiting NJ in Crestwood Village which is like a lawless land. Did you know that NJ has like zero qualifications for actually providing appropriate accommodations for people who are 55+. There's no rules regarding mandatory wheelchair access or ramps or showers that are equipped for disabled people. (More to follow)
