President Trump's directive to pause all federal grants and loans raises serious concerns about overstepping constitutional boundaries. The power of the purse lies with Congress, not the executive branch. By unilaterally freezing funds that have already been appropriated through proper legislative channels, this order appears to violate the separation of powers enshrined in our nation's founding principles. While the President has leeway in setting priorities, defunding programs enacted by Congress is an abuse of authority that undermines our democratic system of checks and balances. We urge the Administration to immediately rescind this freeze and allow funds to flow as intended to vital programs serving millions of Americans. Any attempt to circumvent the will of Congress through executive overreach must be swiftly challenged to uphold the rule of law.
