Wisconsin v. Trump: oppose the tariffs

To: Gov. Evers

From: A constituent in Milwaukee, WI

April 18, 2025

Trump is abusing Emergency Powers to unlawfully impose tariffs. "A state of emergency should not be a normal state of affairs." (Report of the House Committee on International Relations – see California v. Trump, page 15, line 22.) I understand that as Governor, you value thoughtful and deliberate action. However, given the daily, relentless wave of damage coming from the Trump administration, resistance is not just necessary—it's urgent. Please file a lawsuit against these tariffs which are being imposed under the guise of Executive Emergency. As time is of the essence, I strongly encourage you to plagiarize the California v. Trump case, highlighting the illegality of these tariffs and the harm they inflict on Wisconsin's economy, residents, and small businesses. Additionally, I urge you to mobilize the Democratic Governors Association to take similar action. Together, you can make a powerful statement in the exercise of state-level resistance and turn the tide. Your leadership, sense of humor, and commitment to progress have been invaluable in keeping Wisconsin moving forward. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
