Dear Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto,
I am writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment in your cooperation with Senate Republicans to reopen the government without securing a guarantee that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would be extended.
This decision has placed countless Nevadans — and millions of Americans — in danger. For many of us, the ACA is not a political talking point; it is a lifeline. Without firm protection, people will lose access to affordable healthcare, and some will die as a result. That is the human cost of this compromise.
I voted for Democrats because I believed you would defend your constituents and fight for our right to accessible, affordable healthcare. But at every crucial moment when I’ve hoped to rely on your leadership, you have chosen to cooperate with Senate Republicans on issues that determine our well-being and survival. This is not the first time, and it has deeply eroded my trust.
You have effectively lost my vote. I cannot continue to support representatives who compromise on fundamental human rights. Reopening the government without securing the ACA is not progress — it is surrender. If you wish to regain the confidence of your constituents, you must show through action, not rhetoric, that you are willing to stand firm and fight for us.
Healthcare is not a bargaining chip. It is a human right. I urge you to act accordingly in every decision you make going forward.
