June 3

Regarding your June 1, proclamation that June is "Nuclear Family Month," tell me you are afraid of LGBTQ people without using those exact words. Your edict is filled with falsehoods: 1) The nuclear family is not god's design. It's a European manmade construct, founded upon Puritanical principles and supported by erroneous research, which gained traction in the 1920s. DNA from one neolithic burial site seemed to confirm a nuclear family, but the adjacent gravesite containing a single parent and multiple children was, unsurprisingly overlooked because it didn't fit the narrative. In addition, the nuclear family as you cite it doesn't exist in other cultures. Family comprises multigenerational cohabitation in in order to children. Adult children don't necessarily leave the parental home to raise their own children. Rather, they raise them in the family home. 2) Your claim that children raised in nuclear families are more emotionally stable and better educated is also false. There are numerous studies that counter this claim. 3) Your claim that LGBTQ parent families rely more on welfare ignores the fact that employment discrimination plays a major role in whether a family can sustain itself independently, not because of some inherent weakening of family. Your citation of "God's design" clearly oversteps the separation of church and state and has no place in a government proclamation. Finally, the proclamation ignores single parent households: unmarried foster parents and a widows/widowers as parents. Your proclamation does not speak for Indiana nor of its people. You should be ashamed.
