An Open Letter

To: Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Raleigh, NC

January 4

Trump bombed Venezuela, kidnapped its president, and announced that we will now govern Venezuela. Trump can't even effectively govern the United States. And both of you are in support of Trump's illegal strikes on Venezuela and kidnapping of its president. And while I'm the first to agree that Maduro is a horrible person, that doesn't give the U.S. the right to bomb their country and kidnap him. You both are repeating Trump's lies and gaslighting that this is about drugs and "narco terrorists". If Trump is so against drug lords and narco terrorists, then explain why he pardoned the Honduras president and other known drug traffickers. Venezuela isn't about drugs. Murdering Venezuelans in boats thousands of miles away isn't about drugs. It's about oil. Plain and simple. Trump wants the oil and Trump thinks he can have whatever he wants. If Congress doesn't rein Trump in, he will be further emboldened to commit more lawless violence against anyone, anywhere. That includes our country, the very country where your families and loved ones live. There was no Congressional authorization for the strike on Venezuela. The operation was illegal, as were the earlier boat strikes. Now Trump is threatening to repeat his horrible playbook in Columbia, Mexico, Cuba, and perhaps even Greenland. Trump is not a king. He can't rule the United States, nor any other country, like the king that he imagines himself to be. Venezuelans must have a say in their own future, and Congress must take action to rein in the lawless White House, because we, the people, are who have the say in our government. We elected officials who we assumed would uphold their oaths to the Constitution, provide checks and balances on the executive branch, and work for what is best for our country. I'm not sure why you two are living in Trump's alternate reality. It's apparent neither of you ever intend to uphold your oaths to the Constitution or do what is best for our country. You certainly aren't listening to the American people, the majority of whom, regardless of political affiliation, don't agree with Trump. So let me ask you this. Since bombing Venezuela won't make you turn your backs on Trump, perhaps the Epstein files will. Because Trump's deflection, which is also what his attack on Venezuela was based on the timing of it, won't make the Epstein files go away. The more that comes out in the Epstein files, the worse it is for Trump. And the worse it looks for Trump, the worse it makes his supporters look. You are defending a pedophile and a war criminal. And we haven't even seen all that is in the Epstein files. But what we have seen is horrific for Trump and clearly, based on the Republicans trying to stall the total release of the Epstein files, you KNOW it's worse than we have seen so far. I know reaching out to you won't matter. You don't listen to the American people. You are cowards. But I'm doing it anyway, because this is a way I can take action. I can say I tried. Mr. Tillis, you in particular. You aren't running for reelection. This is your chance to do what is right for our country and to prove that you do uphold your oath to the Constitution. Mr. Budd, you're a lost cause, but it won't stop me from contacting you. Maybe one day, when the Epstein files are fully released or Trump starts bombing more countries to try and save his flailing presidency and you have a chance to look back at your actions and how you supported Trump, maybe you will feel remorse. I certainly hope you will feel ashamed. You could have done better. But you chose not to.
