I write to echo the many disgusted Marylanders and Americans who have no doubt contacted your office since the murder of Renee Nicole Good. Congress must act to protect residents being profiled (“Kavanaugh stopped”), chased, abused, injured, deported, disappeared, separated from their families, and executed — all without a shred of due process, most often without even a judicial warrant. As Coleman Rogers wrote recently, “Independent reporting and data compiled by The Trace show a documented spike in shootings and use-of-force incidents involving federal immigration agents during the Trump administration’s enforcement surges. Less-lethal weapons have been used against protesters and clergy. Detention populations have surged, facilities are overcrowded, deaths in custody are at record levels, and judges across the country—appointed by presidents of both parties—have overwhelmingly ruled against ICE’s detention practices. …This outcome was foreseeable. What is happening now is not routine immigration enforcement. It is the normalization of militarized, anonymous federal policing in American neighborhoods… That is not public safety. It is a direct threat to constitutional government. At this moment, statements are not enough. Every member of Congress—Democrat and Republican alike—should be physically standing together on the steps of the Capitol demanding an immediate end to ICE’s deadly abuses. Silence in the face of a U.S. citizen being killed and then smeared to justify her death is not neutrality; it is acquiescence.” I’m truly ashamed of most of our members of Congress. I trust you will do the right thing - not just speak out, but convince your colleagues to act. - Hold emergency public hearings with sworn testimony from DHS and ICE leadership. - Subpoena all video, communications, use-of-force policies, and after-action reports related to this killing and the 31 other deaths we know about from 2025. -Prohibit masked or anonymous federal policing in civil immigration enforcement, in any agency. -Mandate an enforceable duty to render immediate medical aid. -Restore meaningful civil liability and accountability for federal agents who violate constitutional rights - no immunity from prosecution by any means. -Insist that Bovino and Noem cease “surges,” or large-scale, theatrical enforcement operations that end in mass illegal acts by immigration enforcement, endanger lawful protesters, and keep residents trapped in their homes. We elected you to act. Your real-life constituents are telling you what to do - not phantom “centrists” out there somewhere. There can be no centrists in a fascist state. Add -impeach Kristi Noem and publish all documentation of deaths in ICE custody you can subpoena.
