Keep Public Lands in Public Hands

To: Sen. Ernst, Rep. Miller-Meeks, Sen. Grassley

From: A verified voter in Norwalk, IA

June 19

I am writing to you as a concerned constituent and advocate for our nation’s public lands. I urge you to take strong action to protect public lands from privatization, commercial exploitation, and restrictive policies that limit public access. These lands belong to all Americans and must remain protected, preserved, and accessible for generations to come. Our public lands — from national forests and wildlife refuges to national parks and Bureau of Land Management areas — are critical to our heritage, economy, and well-being. They support outdoor recreation, safeguard clean water and air, protect biodiversity, and provide spaces for millions of Americans to connect with nature. Efforts to sell off or transfer public lands to private interests, weaken environmental protections, or reduce funding for public land agencies directly threaten these spaces. I ask you to: • Oppose any legislation or administrative action that would transfer or sell public lands to private interests • Support robust funding for agencies like the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and BLM • Champion legislation that expands access, equity, and conservation protections for public lands • Ensure that Indigenous communities are respected and included in land management decisions Public lands are not for sale — they are a shared legacy. Please stand with your constituents and the American public by keeping our public lands public. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your service to our state and nation.
