Include Martin University in State Funding

Governor Braun,
Denying state funding to Martin University is an attack on educational equity and a disservice to Indiana’s future. As the only Predominantly Black Institution serving adult learners in the state, Martin plays a critical role in providing opportunities for Black Hoosiers and other marginalized communities. This decision undermines efforts to ensure all Hoosiers, regardless of race, have access to quality education and support services.
Additionally, the omission of the College Success Program, which directly aids low-income and minority students, further reveals a disregard for those who face systemic barriers to educational achievement. These budget cuts send a message that the needs of minority and disadvantaged communities are expendable in favor of political posturing.
All taxpayers, including Black and minority Hoosiers, contribute to the state’s resources. They deserve equitable access to state-funded educational opportunities. Decisions like this harm not only the affected communities but Indiana as a whole. We need inclusive policies that uplift every citizen and strengthen our state’s future.
Please reconsider this harmful omission and restore funding to Martin University and programs that support educational success for all Hoosiers.
