I have written numerous times inquiring about tariffs and I have asked why Congress doesn’t assert your authority over tariffs. I wanted to know what emergency precipitated these tariffs on every country we trade with. On 10 April 2025, you replied, and did not answer my question. You stated, “In 2024, our trade deficit in goods was greater than $1.2 trillion. For decades, we’ve seen countless manufacturers close their doors and move jobs overseas, small businesses struggle to grow, and farmers struggle to get by as heavily subsidized foreign competitors cheat their way to the top. To stop this growing trend, President Trump levied a 10 percent baseline tariff on all countries, with many countries seeing a much higher rate based on the trade barriers, currency manipulation, and deceptive practices that have undercut American businesses.” This does NOT answer my question. To repeat: What is the emergency declared by the President on EVERY country to announce these tariffs? Perhaps you should check the news from the US Court of International Trade. The three-judge panel issued their opinion that invalidates every tariff imposed by the President under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Why doesn’t Congress assert your authority over tariffs, and 2. What is the emergency declared by the President on every country to announce these tariffs? I’d like a reply; I’m concerned you truly to not understand your job and that you need some refresher ‘training’ on what exactly your job requires. Perhaps you and your staff are slipping in the knowledge level required and as my representative in congress, this concerns me.
