Please oppose the discriminatory transgender bathroom ban

To: Sen. Cardin, Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Hoyer

From: A constituent in Mechanicsville, MD

November 20

I'm writing to urge you to oppose Nancy Mace's discriminatory bathroom ban. This bill would prevent transgender people from using the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity on federal property. It would also subject transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people to harassment and threats regardless of the bathroom they use. Under such a ban, trans people would be unable to safely use *any* bathroom at Dulles, DCA, museums, national parks, and federal buildings. Using the restroom that aligns with their gender identity could result in arrest, while using the bathroom that aligns with their sex assigned at birth would likely result in harassment, invasive questions, threats, and even violence. The intent of these bills is to scapegoat a vulnerable minority and drive them out of public life. Congress has better things to do than torment trans people who would like to go about their lives in peace. I'm asking you to condemn this bill in the strongest possible terms and vote against it if it comes up for a vote. Please stand up for your transgender constituents.
