Oppose SB 432 (Changes to Groundwater Conservation)

To: Rep. Davis

From: A verified voter in Baton Rouge, LA

May 4

I am writing to express my strong opposition to Senate Bill 432 (Groundwater Conservation). Specifically, SB 432 would prohibit the Groundwater Conservation Board from conducting independent monitoring of industry's water usage, which is a critical step in protecting our drinking water.  This bill would also give industry lobby groups significant control over the board's appointments, further undermining the District's ability to protect our aquifer. I also am concerned about the long-term effects of this bill on our community's health and well-being.  The Southern Hills Aquifer is the primary source of drinking water for 600,000 residents in the Capital Area, and it is essential that we take action to protect it from saltwater intrusion.  The Groundwater Conservation Board’s efforts to monitor and regulate water usage are crucial to ensuring the sustainability of our aquifer. I urge you to protect the Groundwater Conservation Board from undue political influence and to preserve a critical public asset. Vote against SB 432.
