I am writing to urge you to unequivocally support women by voting yes on the Right to Contraception Act and by encouraging your colleagues, regardless of political affiliation, to do the same. Women and young girls around the world, and unfortunately in this country, face significant threats to their safety and well-being. Contraception is a critical tool that allows women to protect their bodies. Access to contraceptives enables women to manage their physical, reproductive, mental, and emotional health. It also supports their independence, empowering them to achieve their aspirations and dreams. Women have an inherent right to manage their overall health, and contraceptives are a vital component of that right. It is also important to recognize that in medicine, contraceptives are used to manage many challenging conditions and diseases. These include, but are not limited to: - Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) - Endometriosis - Menstrual regulation and pain relief - Hormonal imbalances - Acne - Anemia caused by heavy menstrual bleeding - Fibroids - Prevention of ovarian cysts While the focus is often on women, this issue is also relevant to men. Men should have access to contraceptives, and with the development of new male birth control methods and the effectiveness of condoms, they should be encouraged to take a more active and accountable role in contraception and pregnancy prevention. Prevention begins with education and, most importantly, access to contraception. By supporting the Right to Contraception Act, you will be advocating for the health, safety, and autonomy of all individuals. I implore you to vote yes on the Right to Contraception Act and to champion its passage among your peers.
