I woke up this morning with the same ongoing dread and dampening of spirit that I have had every day since Donald Trump and Elon Musk began their purge of government with consideration only to the fear they are instilling in Americans and the destabilization of our country and the world. This is not the way government is run, and it is not the way to engender confidence in one’s efforts to, in theory, make budget cuts and find a more efficient way to run the United States. Their actions are brutally transparent in that they are willing to bankrupt and/or privatize vital organizations to enable tax cuts for those who absolutely do not need them. I’m retired from the State of North Carolina as well as having worked for the CIA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. I care deeply about supporting our allies and not aligning with Putin, who embraces Trump all the while he plans to continue doing everything in his power to destroy us. The sad thing is that you, as an elected member of Congress, have the power to support what plans of Trump’s make sense but absolutely to hold him accountable for those that are dangerous. Have you ever considered how it feels to be a rank-and-file citizen and know that all your data has been breached by someone over whom there is no accountability? To wonder if your retirement or Medicare or Social Security will be reduced? To wonder if the medical care your veteran friends desperately need will be available? And to wonder week-to-week how much more fresh food and cars and lumber will cost because of the tariffs that seem to be threatened more as grievances than policy. The anxiety that I feel is ongoing and extremely unhealthy. Has this, factored by now a majority of the nation, been considered? I look forward to your reply, and even more importantly, to learning about town halls you’re willing to attend to listen to those of us with concerns.
