This Is Not Immigration Enforcement—It’s Domestic Surveillance
As a Maryland resident, I’m deeply concerned about ICE’s contracts with private surveillance firms like ShadowDragon to monitor the social media activity of U.S. citizens—including those simply exercising their First Amendment rights.
These tools (like SocialNet and OIMonitor) scrape data from over 200 online platforms—Facebook, Reddit, TikTok, even parenting forums and dating apps. They don’t just look for credible threats—they flag “negative sentiment” toward ICE, build detailed profiles, map social networks, and collect data like names, photos, geolocation, and partial Social Security numbers. This goes far beyond immigration enforcement—it’s dragnet surveillance of Americans without warrants or accountability.
ICE is actively preparing to renew and expand these contracts through September 2025. We cannot allow federal agencies to outsource authoritarian surveillance through private firms.
I urge you to:
• Launch a Senate inquiry into ICE’s surveillance programs and contracts;
• Require full transparency and public reporting on the use of OSINT tools targeting U.S. citizens;
• Support legislation to ban this type of warrantless digital profiling by any federal agency.
This is a clear civil liberties violation, and it threatens the rights of all Americans, not just immigrants. I ask you to speak out and take immediate action.
