How many AG nominee possibilities are there now? And why are they all terrible?

What an impressive slate of potential Attorneys General you’ve managed to assemble. Truly. It takes a special kind of effort to survey an entire nation of qualified legal minds and still land—repeatedly—on candidates who inspire widespread alarm, ethical concern, or outright disbelief. One has to ask: is this deliberate, or is there simply no longer a vetting process beyond ideological loyalty and personal allegiance? We are talking about the chief law enforcement officer of the United States—the person tasked with upholding the Constitution, ensuring equal justice under law, and maintaining the independence of the Department of Justice. Yet the names floated so far seem better suited for roles in partisan media, private defense of political figures, or perhaps nowhere near the levers of federal prosecutorial power at all. Is basic competence no longer a requirement? Is respect for the rule of law optional? Is independence now considered a liability? Because from the outside, it appears that the only consistent qualification is a demonstrated willingness to blur, bend, or bulldoze the boundaries between law and politics. So here’s the question you should be answering—clearly and publicly: What, exactly, is your plan to prevent the Department of Justice from becoming a tool of personal or political retribution? And if your answer is “trust us,” understand that trust is not built by presenting a parade of candidates who raise red flags before they even reach a confirmation hearing. You are not casting a reality show. You are shaping the integrity of the justice system. Act like it. Sincerely, A constituent who would very much prefer an Attorney General who believes in the law
