I am writing to express my strong opposition to any deployment of active-duty United States military personnel to Minnesota for domestic law enforcement or crowd-control purposes.
The use of active-duty forces within our states, outside of the most extreme and clearly defined circumstances, undermines long-standing constitutional principles, civilian governance, and the proper role of the military. Our armed forces are trained to confront foreign threats, not to police American communities. Introducing them into domestic situations risks unnecessary escalation, confusion of authority, and erosion of public trust.
Minnesota, like every state, already has established civilian institutions capable of addressing public safety concerns, including local law enforcement, state agencies, and the National Guard when properly requested and governed by state leadership. Circumventing these structures sets a dangerous precedent and weakens the balance between federal and state authority.
I respectfully urge Congress to exercise its constitutional oversight responsibilities and to clearly oppose any unilateral executive action that would deploy active-duty military forces against the civilian population of Minnesota. Protecting public safety must never come at the expense of civil liberties, democratic norms, or the apolitical nature of our armed forces.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your service to the Constitution and the American people.
