Reconsider age verification bill's impact on free expression

HR 6429 – Stop Censoring LGBTQ+ Content Under Cover of Child Protection This proposed legislation HR 6429, known as the SCREEN Act, requires commercial websites to verify users' ages if over a third of their content could be deemed "harmful to minors." However, the overly broad definition including sexual content or nudity regardless of artistic merit raises concerns about restricting access to educational resources and suppressing legal LGBTQ+ perspectives under the guise of shielding youth. While youth safety is crucial, this measure could infringe on free speech rights and disproportionately impact marginalized LGBTQ+ communities by enabling discrimination and censorship of constitutionally protected expression.
