Protect the constitutional separation of powers
To: Justices Court
From: A constituent in Seattle, WA
February 14, 2025
Never in my life did it occur to me to call or write to the Supreme Court. But in the moment that we are in, your role in preserving the separation of powers, and the very structures of democracy, is so crucial. We have a president who is actively bypassing the legislature, both by legislating directly through an overwhelming flurry of executive orders and by controlling the spending of the federal government, something explicitly under the auspices of congress. This is incredibly dangerous as the separation of powers is essential to maintaining our status as a democracy rather than a monarchy or dictatorship. The Supreme Court is absolutely essential right now as the third branch of government. We need you to protect the constitution and to address presidential overreach. I am not an attorney nor constitutional scholar but I understand that what you rule to be constitutional now is something this nation will be living with for years, decades, possibly centuries to come. We are counting on you to hold firm, to protect the constitution and insist on the separation of power laid out in that document. Truly the future of this nation depends on you. We are counting on you.
