An Open Letter

To: Sen. Black, Gov. Kehoe, Rep. McGaugh

From: A verified voter in Chillicothe, MO

February 2

I am a resident of Chillicothe and a proud member of the ACLU. I am writing to strongly urge your support for SB 1570, which would allow for an "X" sex designation on birth certificates. The current legal requirement for "surgical proof" to change a gender marker is an invasive hurdle that does not reflect my physical or medical reality. I possess a natural physical symmetry that defies standard binary classification: I have masculine traits (facial hair) on the right side of my face, while my left side naturally expresses feminine traits. I also carry permanent biological markings on my left arm that distinguish my identity from the traditional male or female molds. As a Missourian who values privacy and bodily autonomy, I believe that an "X" designation is the only accurate way for the state to document my existence without forcing me into a category that does not fit. My identity is not a "glitch"—it is a biological fact. Thank you for your time and for protecting the rights of all Missourians to have accurate identification.
