Tech CEO Threatening Our Lives:They Deserve Jail Time for Reckless Endangerment
To: Del. Edelson, Sen. Ferguson, Gov. Moore, Del. Lewis, Del. Clippinger
From: A constituent in Baltimore, MD
October 26
Dear State Official: Your job, as representative, Governor, or Attorney General, is to protect the citizens of this state. AI, according to the public confessions of its own creators, is a commercial product they developed that has created a 10 to 25% chance of ending humanity. Sam Altman of OpenAI estimated a 10% chance of ending humanity, Elon Musk of XAI a 10 to 20% chance of ending humanity, and Dario Amodei of Anthropic a 25% chance of ending humanity. Our state is one of the 24 US states that has a law against reckless endangerment, which is defined as taking ANY ACTION that creates a risk of serious bodily injury or death to another. States that have a similar statute are PA, NY, MD, DE, FL, NH, VT, GA, CT, IN, CO, WY, MT, UT, NV, OR, WA, ND, WI, AL, TN, KY, KS and IL. I oppose AI for any of a number of good reasons, like the massive unemployment it’s going to cause, the hacking and exposure of personal data we hear about weekly, the infiltration of financial data systems reported by JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and BofA, etc., the fact that companies have ripped off the intellectual property of billions to train their commercial product, how it’s dumbing down our ability to think critically, the numerous errors in what AI tells you, and of course, the data centers, the data centers, the data centers, that eat up our land and drink up our water and jack up our electric rates. But all of that pales in comparison to how much I want us to live. Why I really oppose AI, in addition to and over all of the above, is because I love humanity. I love my family, my children, my grandchildren, and all of humanity. And I love myself. AI threatens all of us. I don’t feel like waiting around at the whim of billionaires and trillionaires to see if they’re going to kill us in their quest for more money. The law does not allow them to create that risk for others. The law of our state protects the citizens of our state from their actions. Our state statutes were passed for our own protection, but if YOU, our state officials, don’t enforce them, it’s like they don’t exist. I am calling on you to enforce our state law against reckless endangerment, and begin prosecution of the above tech CEOs TODAY, based on their own confessions and our state law. I’m also calling on you to write our federal representatives and tell them that any federal law or regulation must explicitly state it does not fill the field or preempt state law in any way that would wipe out our state protections. We deserve them. Your job is to be the protector of the public of this state. Please do your job. We look forward to seeing your action in doing that TODAY and look forward to your reporting back to us what you’ve done to protect us in this regard. Sincerely, Your Constituent (and I do vote, every election)
