America claims we have free speech - STOP censoring Science

To: Sen. Kaine, Rep. Wittman, Sen. Warner

From: A constituent in Yorktown, VA

February 26

I'm writing to you today regarding the ban of hundreds of words from scientific papers, research grants, and federal websites. Vance, Musk, and countless other members of the current administration have gone on record that they want to "end censorship" and "bring back free speech." I agree, it's our first amendment right to speak freely, without punishment by the government. They've chosen to implement this by banning words such as female, equality, or diversity. These words are used in papers across dozens of fields and are now being censored by the government. The impact is a waste of American tax payer dollars as federal workers work to remove these terms across hundreds of federal websites. Many such websites were shut down, a worsening example of the removal of information from public access by the government. What are you doing to stop the federal government from denying Americans the use of certain words? What are you doing to stop the denial of grants and removal of websites that include words just because the current administration doesn't like them? This is scarily akin to censorship seen in Nazi Germany. You as a representative of America, a legislator who swears to serve the people, should be doing something about it. This is only the first month of the presidency. What's to happen in the first year? How much further are you going to let them get? When they start burning books will you wake up? I look forward to hearing back on what actions you are taking.
