The House on Wednesday narrowly passed legislation that would limit stock trading by members of Congress, moving months ahead of the midterm elections to address a practice that has stoked public outrage and bipartisan calls for change.
But nearly all Democrats opposed the measure after Republicans added a federal voter ID requirement to the bill, bowing to President Trump’s demands to impose new restrictions on voting and lining up a talking point they could use against Democrats in the coming campaign.
Trump is showing his utter desperation in his attempts to force the SAVE Act into law. It is pathetic and we will not stand for it!
This bill addresses very real concerns that the American people have about the hoghest rankong members of our government using insider knowledge for I'll gotten gains. This is horrible on its own, but also such a slap in the face now, given the current economic struggles of the average American household.
Congress must pass clean legislation now, and stop trying to force the SAVE Act into law! It is a violation of Americans' Constitutional Right to Vote in free and fair elections.
