Support the “Extend the TikTok Deadline Act”

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks, Rep. Raskin

From: A constituent in Silver Spring, MD

January 13

Please support the “Extend the TikTok deadline Act” As a constituent, I am writing today to strongly urge you to protect our constitutional right to free speech online by voting in support of the “Extend the TikTok deadline Act” A ban would not only violate our First Amendment right to express ourselves, but would also set the stage for the government to ban other apps and platforms. Data collection by apps has real consequences for our privacy, but selectively censoring entire platforms based on their country of origin is not the solution. Please do everything within your power to protect our right to express ourselves – and vote to extend the deadline for the ban onTikTok. I am very concerned about privacy issues with META and the direction both META and X are going. Please address issues with ALL social media apps and not just ban TikTok. In a time where free speech and the ability to gather will be so important in this new administration, please don’t block one of the only ways people can gather online without Zuckerberg or Elon. Additionally, banning this app will be harmful to the millions of Americans who earn money and grow their small businesses through this app.
