I strongly oppose the Department of Homeland Security's proposal for a reality show featuring immigrants competing for expedited citizenship. This concept trivializes and exploits the immense struggles that immigrants face in pursuit of a better life. The immigration process should be treated with dignity, not turned into a spectacle for entertainment. Many immigrants have endured unimaginable hardships, fleeing violence, oppression, or economic deprivation. To subject them to contrived competitions and public scrutiny for the chance at citizenship is demeaning and perpetuates harmful stereotypes. The United States was built by generations of immigrants seeking freedom and opportunity. We should honor their resilience by upholding an immigration system grounded in humanity, due process, and respect for human rights. A reality show format completely disregards these principles. I urge you to reject this ill-conceived proposal. Immigration policy should prioritize family reunification, protecting vulnerable populations, and creating viable pathways to legal status - not provide ratings-driven content. The American dream should be accessible through merit and perseverance, not performative gamesmanship. Our nation's legacy of welcoming immigrants deserves far better treatment.
