Sponsor and support: 1. Country of Origin Labeling Enforcement Act (HR 5818) — Restore Mandatory COOL for Beef 2. EQIP Improvement Act (HR 4133) — Stop Subsidizing Factory Farm Waste and Support Family Farm Livestock Producers Support local, U.S. farmers and ranchers by reducing the five-year payment cap on EQIP contracts from $450,000 to $150,000. This change frees up funds to serve a more substantial number of farms and projects. Reallocate funds from the least-effective conservation practices by lowering the federal cost-share from 75% to 40% for these ineffective or low-return practices. This ensures more funds are available for practices that produce greater environmental benefits, such as cover cropping, no-till, crop rotations, nutrient management, and streamside buffers. Increase flexibility for states by eliminating the arbitrary requirement that 50% of program funds go to livestock operators. This allows states to determine the distribution of funds best suited for their unique environments and specific agricultural needs. 3. Meat and Poultry Special Investigator Act (HR 1380) — Enforcement to Increase Competition in Livestock Markets Create and empower a team of investigators at the United States Department of Agriculture to prevent anticompetitive practices in the meat and poultry industry by enforcing existing antitrust laws, in coordination with the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.
