Urging a Unified Front Among Washington Representatives Against the SAVE Act

To: Rep. Larsen

From: A constituent in Edmonds, WA

April 10

I’m writing today not only in continued opposition to the SAVE Act—which I have already contacted your office about—but with an urgent request: what are you personally doing to build and maintain a unified front among Washington’s delegation to oppose harmful legislation like this? The fact that Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez voted in favor of the SAVE Act raises serious concerns—not just about her individual stance, but about a lack of internal collaboration and coordinated opposition within our own state delegation. This is legislation that undermines voter access under the guise of security. As you know, Washington has a long and successful history of secure mail-in voting and automatic registration. Voter fraud is statistically negligible—a 2017 study by the Brennan Center found incident rates between 0.0003% and 0.0025%. The SAVE Act seeks a solution to a problem that does not exist, and in doing so, threatens the very systems that enable full and fair participation in democracy. Given these stakes, I expect more than just individual statements of opposition—I expect strategy. I expect teamwork. I expect our representatives to proactively engage each other to prevent situations where members of the same delegation cast conflicting votes on bills that affect all of us. So I ask again, directly: • What steps are you taking to work with other Washington delegation members to coordinate a united stance on legislation like this? • Were there any efforts to reach out to Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez before the vote? • What will you do now to ensure our state delegation doesn’t fracture again in the face of future harmful proposals? I strongly urge you to prioritize collaboration going forward. The people of Washington are paying attention—and we expect you to act as a bloc that protects our shared values, especially when it comes to voting rights. Please provide a written response outlining your plans for coordination and unified advocacy moving ahead.
