The political and financial activities of ultra-wealthy individuals, such as Peter Thiel, highlight a systemic vulnerability in our nation. Billionaires are increasingly capable of steering public policy, funding campaigns that polarize our electorate, and reshaping democratic institutions to align with private interests. When individuals with such outsized influence choose to move their assets or families abroad, it leaves everyday American citizens to live with the societal and political consequences of their financial experiments. To safeguard the United States from the corrupting influence of extreme wealth and to protect our system of checks and balances against administrative overreach, I urge you to champion legislative reforms that address these vulnerabilities. Specifically, I request that you support measures to: Overturn the effects of Citizens United by implementing stricter campaign finance regulations to limit dark money in elections. Strengthen government ethics frameworks to prevent the weaponization of the executive branch and protect federal agencies from partisan corruption. Implement equitable tax reforms, including robust exit taxes or wealth expatriation penalties, ensuring billionaires cannot avoid contributing to the society that enabled their fortune. Reinforce democratic guardrails that protect voting rights and ensure the executive branch remains fully accountable to Congress and the American people. Our democracy must serve the interests of all citizens, not just the financial elite.
