I am writing today in support of House Bill 2098, sponsored by state representative Julia Reed (D-36th Seattle). This bill, when enacted, will erase a exclusion from taxation by mega-corporations like Amazon and Microsoft, and insure much more fair and proportional taxation across the board. The new revenue from this bill, likely $800 million a year, will fully fund the College Grant program for students from families with incomes up to $150,000, and it will also enable the state to lower tuition. These are what our objectives for progress should be in our state, student-centered tuition relief and taxation equity, not the protection of corporate billionaires whose actions are consistently attempting to destroy our democracy.
Don’t let our state government be captive to the corporate lobbyists working for the largest businesses in Washington, companies that also seem to be currying favor with the authoritarian Trump administration with their donations to his illegally conceived White House ballroom, to his inauguration, or in buying and releasing the First Lady’s documentary film as a form of a barely-disguised corporate bribe. Work for the Washington state college students who will benefit from this bill instead! This bill has two-to-one support polls say, so there is no reason to delay. It is well past time to get this bill passed through the legislature and onto the Governor’s desk. Pass HB 2098 now!
