The proposed workforce reductions at the Social Security Administration are deeply concerning and threaten to jeopardize a critical social safety net for millions of Americans. I urge you to take immediate action to prevent these harmful cuts from moving forward. Social Security provides essential retirement, disability, and survivor benefits that people have paid into throughout their working lives. Slashing up to half of the agency's staff would severely undermine its ability to process claims and provide timely service to the 72.5 million beneficiaries who rely on these vital programs. Lengthy delays, office closures, and diminished access would inflict real hardship, particularly on vulnerable populations like the elderly and disabled. Rather than dismantling Social Security through debilitating staff cuts, we should be working to strengthen the program's long-term solvency while preserving full benefits. Forcing Americans to go without their earned benefits or making it difficult to access them is unacceptable. I implore you to reject this proposal from the Department of Government Efficiency and protect the Social Security Administration's workforce to ensure it can continue fulfilling its fundamental mission. The well-being of our nation's retirees and the disabled is at stake.
