I am writing with profound urgency regarding the horrific conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and the unacceptable treatment of its 5,000 sailors and Marines. This is a crisis of leadership endangering the lives of those who defend our nation.
The USS Lincoln has been deployed for over 250 days with more than 200 days without a port call. The reported living conditions are unconscionable:
Moldy showers, broken toilets, and weeks without hot water
Meals reduced to "half a cup of rice and two tortillas"
Mail lost for months
Multiple sailors attempting to jump overboard, with one shipmate physically intervening to stop another
One spouse shared that her husband messaged her saying "he hopes he doesn't wake up tomorrow." The Navy's response—that they have not "observed an increase in suicidal ideations"—directly contradicts these family accounts and is a dismissive insult to our service members' suffering.
While I am grateful Senator Blumenthal and Representative Moulton are demanding answers, this requires immediate action from every Member of Congress.
I urgently ask you to:
Speak out publicly condemning these conditions and demanding accountability
Co-sponsor resolutions calling for the immediate return of the USS Lincoln for rest and maintenance
Support a full investigation by the House Armed Services Committee into operational decisions and mental health failures
Question Pete Hegseth directly on why he prioritizes culture war issues over keeping our troops alive
Our service members are not pawns to be ground down for political agendas. They are human beings. I await your response outlining the steps you will take to address this crisis.
