Protect Affordable Health Care: Vote YES This Week

To: Rep. Salinas

From: A constituent in Sheridan, OR

January 7

I am writing to urge you to vote YES on legislation to extend the Affordable Care Act’s premium tax credits without adding abortion bans or restrictions. These enhanced ACA tax credits have been a lifeline for millions of Americans, helping families afford health insurance, manage chronic conditions, and avoid crushing medical debt. Allowing these credits to expire would raise premiums, increase the number of uninsured people, and disproportionately harm low- and middle-income households—including many in our own district. Attaching abortion restrictions to this legislation is unacceptable. Health care decisions belong to patients and their doctors, not politicians. Using access to affordable health insurance as leverage to restrict reproductive freedom undermines both public health and fundamental personal liberty. I ask not only that you vote yes, but that you actively work with your colleagues to encourage their support as well. This should be a straightforward, bipartisan vote to protect affordable health care and respect individual rights—without ideological conditions that harm patients. Please stand up for affordable coverage, bodily autonomy, and evidence-based health policy. I will be watching this vote closely and appreciate your leadership on this critical issue.
