Advocate for civility

Republicans risk further fracturing the country with imposing their will on our society. The party controls all branches of government yet is still so aggrieved over perceived slights that they insist on punishing universities and controlling media monopolies. This power grab only will weaken the power of politics to be a social good and will inflame division of our citizenry. The most recent blatant example of this is Bari Weiss’ censorship of a “60 minutes” piece detailing the horrific treatment of illegally deported migrants. This has been a well reported story but the perspectives of the detainees have been missing. Weiss claims to hat the story didn’t “move the ball.” What is clear, however, is that the story was censored in order to not upset an unstable and vengeful President. Actions like this, as well as trying to pay off Americans with tariff rebate checks or obfuscating the Epstein file contents or normalizing frivolous lawsuits or callously denigrating someone who was murdered and happens to have a different point of view, is accelerating the cultural rot within our society. Trump is not the cause of all this, but he is speeding up the process and bringing us closer to a gruesome new low that we may not soon emerge from. Have some pride and speak out against him. Advocate for a return to civility, for the sake of our country.
